100 Words

From my initial sketches and ideas of the door, I chose to further investigate into the idea of the sliding/hinged door. I researched deeper into this idea and came up with a solution of creating a series of bi-folding doors, that are able to unhinge from/lift off the tracks that the doors would normally slide upon, and move around on small wheels underneath each frame.

This enables the doors not only to slide along the tracks and fold at each end like a bifolding door normally would, but also to detach from the tracks and move freely (much like two arms) on small wheels underneath each component. I played with the materials on the doors, and found the most visually pleasing material that of a glass window set in an aluminium frame. I chose this so that the viewer doesn’t need to open the doors to experience the amazing views of the beach, which I have tried to convey through adding a surfboard and a woman in a bikini into my context sketch up models.
